This week we will continue to review skills that we have covered throughout the year. We will also continue with our last math unit and focus on elapsed time. We have been working on using a number/time line as one strategy. We will focus more on using a time T-chart as an additional strategy to help with this skill.
This week we are starting our final math unit on time and measurement. We will start with telling time to the nearest minute. We will also work on elapsed time. This can be a challenging skill. We will work on two strategies for elapsed time: Using a number line and a t-chart. Students will have both of these in their math notebooks to use to study from and work on. Attached is also the unit letter so you have a idea of the exact skills we will be working on.
Hi Parents!
This week we will be reviewing fractions, equivalent fractions, comparing fractions and fractions in word problems. We will be completing a study guide in class. Students have been asked to bring home their interactive notebooks to study. We will be taking the first half of the test this Friday. Thanks! Hi Parents,
This week we will continue working on making equivalent fractions using fraction tiles and number lines as strategies. We will also begin comparing fractions, determining which fraction is of greater value. Students will begin learning the "Butterfly Method" AKA cross-multiplying fractions to determine the value. Follow this link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cXZn26QzMM) for a tutorial on this method. I will also post this video under the 'Resources' tab. We will plan to have a Math Quiz on Friday. Thank you! Have a great week. Hi Parents,
This week we will look at fractions as part of a set in word problems, equivalent fractions using fraction strips along with plotting fractions on a number line. We are planning to have a quiz at the end of the week. Hi Parents!
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Your students have learned that a fraction is made of a numerator and a denominator and that each unit fraction is an equal part of a whole. Students have learned how to partition shapes into equal parts and label them with the correct fractions. This week, your students will continue to determine fractions within a word problem. For example, Laura was making bracelets. She has 24 bracelets. 12 of them are red and 12 of them are blue. What fraction of them are red? We will also continue to look into equivalent fraction such as 1/2 is equal to 3/6. Have a wonderful week! Hi Parents!
I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend and made some special memories with your sweet kiddos. We will continue learning about fractions this week, digging deeper into equivalent fractions and fractions on a number line. Due to the short week, students will not bring home homework. However, please have your student spend at least 20 minutes on iReady Math and practice their multiplication facts! Thank you for all you do! We started unit 5 this week. Unit 5 will cover fractions, fractions on a number line and comparing fractions with the same denominator. For more information please look over the parent letter linked below:
https://www.georgiastandards.org/Georgia-Standards/Frameworks/Unit-5-3rd-grade-parent-letter.pdf Please continue to practice multiplication facts at home. Thank you for all you do! Parents,
to give you an update we will be taking our Unit 4 test next week on Monday and Tuesday of next week. This test will be on Area, Perimeter, base fractions (1/2, 1/3, 1/4 etc.) and polygons and their attributes. Your students have completed a study guide this week during class and should be bringing their materials home to study. Thank you for all you do at home :) I hope you all had a wonderful Winter Break!
Homework: Due by Friday. Students may also spend time on iReady Math at home. This week we will be starting unit 4. Unit 4 is titled Measurement and Data. In this unit, students will be learning about shapes and their attributes, partitioning shapes into equal parts to find unit fractions, relating area to multiplication and addition, using rulers to measure length to the nearest ¼ and ½ inch and using the data to create a line plot, finding the perimeter of polygons, and continuing to work with bar graphs and picture graphs.
